Unconditional love – defining something that is at the end undefinable

by | Oct 26, 2024 | Aware, Self Therapy

Unconditional love is a concept that has intrigued me for many years. In my previous post, “Unleashing Pure Love Perspective: A Path to Authentic Living,” I began exploring the love aspect we all have built in. Love seems to be everywhere; it appears to be the real fuel of everything around us, and everyone seems to be looking to receive some.

I encountered it through various teachings, where the most well-known figure of love is Jesus. Love was always with me, existing in the background, but I couldn’t understand it with my mental mind. Last year, I was close to attending the Eros Mystery School event with Dr. Marc Gafni, who seems to be the closest to bridging the concept of love in an understandable way. However, I couldn’t attend (maybe this year). Besides a private event that made it impossible for me to travel, I hesitated, feeling unprepared to immerse myself in the community, discussions, and philosophy that surrounded this profound idea.

Beyond perception

Unconditional love seemed to be something beyond my mental perception—something raw, outrageous, and deeply transformative. It’s something that many have tried to define, but the more I progress with my self-change and healing, the more I believe that trying to understand it is a kind of mission impossible. The only way to really understand it is through step-by-step becoming it. In my relationships, I believed I was practicing unconditional love. I thought I loved my wife unconditionally until I realized that my love came with some kind of expectations and desires for certain roles to be fulfilled. Similarly, I believed I had unconditional love for my son, but I struggled to accept various aspects of his being. These realizations made me question what unconditional love truly is.

Was unconditional love what I felt when my kids were born? For that little moment before they left the hospital and everyone was still kind of happily high, the moment when I felt amazing—was this unconditional love? Was it when my father hugged me with love after so many years of not expressing it, only when he was finally able to do so, over the last years being more and more conscious after his near-death experience? Was it when I was getting married and then when I discovered that my wife was pregnant? Those first moments of feeling just full and fulfilled and vibrating high when everything seemed perfect as it was and everything seemed possible? Or maybe those moments on retreats with plant medicine, after many of them when I cleared some aspects and traumas? No idea… maybe each of these moments has some aspect of love…

Unconditional love – understanding through becoming

I could not understand it or even write about it until I began to feel it. Then I had no more doubts about what unconditional love is. It is a love that simply exists—a love that resonates within you and is an intrinsic part of who you are. It is a love that accepts the person entirely, just as they are. Describing the state of unconditional love is challenging. It’s a feeling that transcends the limitations of the mind, a love that just is. That is why I think that unconditional love is something that is undefinable. It may be expressed through art, music, or feelings, but it can’t be defined.

It’s not like I just woke up one day with this understanding. Well, maybe a little bit, but it took some hard work on myself to start looking at me and my life from a totally different perspective. This journey of self-awareness and self-acceptance transformed me. I began to see the positive in things that previously bothered me. At work, I started to view challenges as opportunities or neutral events rather than sources of frustration. In my relationships, I stopped expecting anything and simply loved.

The less I expected, the more I received—from my son, my family, and my environment. Everything began to flow naturally, surrounded by this pure, initially strange feeling that I now describe as unconditional love. This feeling, which was strange at the beginning, became a part of me and my daily life, becoming less strange day by day. It all happened gradually, starting from the acceptance of myself. Then I could feel this love beyond the confines of my thoughts, and it became a part of me, and I started to embody it.

Unconditional love is difficult to describe because I believe you must become it to truly understand it. It requires you to be yourself, to stop expecting and start accepting everything. It involves connecting with the flow of your life and trusting in who you are. When you achieve this state, everything begins to work in the best possible way.

Unconditional love definition: love with no conditions

I believe that this is the essence of unconditional love: a life filled with love for yourself and everyone around you, without any conditions and with full acceptance. There is a difference that can be felt and is very subtle, but you will feel it.

I am not perfect, and I am still on this journey. However, even experiencing this love partially and occasionally gives me a reference point to which I always want to return. Once you feel it, you will always strive to be in that state, attracting and creating circumstances in your life that allow you to feel this love.

I wish you good luck on your journey of self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-love. May you discover this strange state, which transcends words and transforms lives. Keep going, keep believing, and one day, when you are ready, you will start to feel it, embody it, and share it with those around you.

Unconditional love – how to find (proposal of actions)?

  • Keep going on the journey of self-discovery and self-healing to experience an unconditional love.
  • Become the unconditional love, sharing who you are, rather than just trying to understand it intellectually (let go requests from your mind).
  • Trust and surrender to the flow of life to allow unconditional love to manifest in your life.
