The Power of Awareness: Healing Through Self-Discovery

by | Jul 29, 2024 | Reflections

For me, a medicine man, life is a journey of self-discovery and personal growth. Often, if not always, this journey involves freeing ourselves from patterns and beliefs that are not truly ours but have been imposed upon us by society, family, and past experiences. This blog post explores how negative experiences, particularly those involving men, can serve as catalysts for personal growth and transformation.

The Power of Consciousness

Consciousness is the key to healing and self-discovery. It involves taking a conscious perspective on who we already are and who we think we are. Our thoughts and behaviors are shaped by our childhood experiences, societal expectations, and the influences of our parents. These complex patterns can create a sense of imbalance and prevent us from living authentically.

By becoming aware of these patterns, we can begin to heal and discover our true selves. This process is ongoing and requires continuous effort. As we clear one pattern, another may emerge, creating a never-ending journey of self-discovery.

Personal Examples of Breaking Free

In my own life, I have cleared many rigid patterns of thinking and negativity. I used to be consumed by worry and the pressure of fulfilling traditional roles, such as being a father. Each time I cleared one pattern, another would surface, revealing the intricate layers of my subconscious mind.

One significant realization came when I discovered my challenges with going on holidays with my family, especially with my son, or going to restaurants. I didn’t understand why these situations caused me anxiety until I traced it back to my childhood. My parents worked hard, and life was centered around work. Growing up in Poland during hard times, the belief that “if you don’t work, you are useless” was deeply ingrained in me.

This belief put immense pressure on me and created an imbalance in my life. Everything was about work, and I struggled to find joy in rest or leisure. Over the years, I liberated myself from this perspective. I realized that life is not solely about work; there is a time for everything, including rest and creativity.

The Impact on Family Dynamics

This realization also affected my relationship with my son. I had always expected him to work hard, just as I had been taught. It realized that it was challenging for me to see him resting or relaxing. However, over his life, despite of my expectations, he continuously was showing me that it was possible to hack this strange belief I had about work. He showed me that it is possible to enjoy life without constantly working and working. One of the key examples, were related to his school, he speaks 4 languages fluently, managed to pass all exams with minimal effort, getting decent grades, and still found time to enjoy life.

After removing layers of foggy and misconceptual thinking, when I reached some level of clarity related to myself I was able to see that. I took for granted concept of work as the way of being and living, not allowing myself to work but also to take it easy and be able to enjoy fruits of my work.

This was a powerful lesson for me. It made me realize that my rigid beliefs were not serving me or my family. I began to see that enjoying life and spending time with loved ones is just as important as working hard. I learned to value rest and leisure, and this change in perspective improved my overall well-being.

The Example of My Brother

Interestingly, my brother experienced a similar journey. At the age over 50, during one of our discussions, he revealed that he was learning how to rest by allowing himself not to work during weekends. He admitted that he had never known how to truly rest, it may be related to the root as he grew up in the same environment as I did. Our parents’ relentless focus on work had shaped his beliefs too, and he had carried that burden into his adult life.

Just like me, he had been conditioned to think that continuous work was the only way to be valuable. This realization was a significant breakthrough for him. He began to understand the importance of the real rest and balance in life. This shared experience reinforced the idea that our upbringing had deeply impacted us, but it also showed that it is never too late to change and grow.

The Never-Ending Journey of Self-Discovery

The journey of self-discovery is like peeling an onion. Each layer reveals new patterns and beliefs that need to be addressed. This continuous process helps us find our true selves and live more authentically.

By freeing ourselves from the patterns imposed on us by society, family, and past experiences, we can lead happier, more fulfilling lives. It is essential to recognize that this journey is ongoing and that each step brings us closer to our true selves.

Self-discovery continues

Journey of self-discovery and liberation from limiting patterns continues. Another pattern got removed from my buggy software embedded in my mind. Without recognizing and releasing of these continuously limiting patterns I find it nearly impossible to be healthy, to truly enjoy life and find happiness.

Negative experiences, can serve as powerful catalysts for personal growth. By becoming conscious of the patterns that shape our thoughts and behaviors, we can begin to heal and discover our true selves. This journey is ongoing and requires continuous effort, but the rewards are immense. Opening to continuous self-reflection, questioning if what I really think, is real me or just buggy perception of realty that may not be valid, was a key.

I continue clearing my patterns through meditation, therapy, and observation. Thank you, Universe, for guiding me on this path and showing me the wisdom to open myself to new perspectives. I am grateful for the opportunity to enjoy life more fully and to continue growing and evolving. Let’s embrace the journey of self-discovery, by doing so, we can lead more authentic, balanced, and fulfilling lives.
